Many modern wineries now have a separate name for
their high-end wines. (Think of Echo Domani & Gallos,
or Robert Mondovi & Woodbridge.)

           We, at White Owl Winery are now offering our exceptional high-end wines under the name of Purgatory Cellars. W.O.W. is located near the Purgatory swamp region. This is the area George Rogers Clark marched his troops across to overtake the British at Vincennes, Indiana in 1779. At that time, it was flooded for several miles and many of his men suffered from the march due to this. In honor this area's historical significance, we named a wine "Purgatory Red!" It was such a success, we decided to use the name Purgatory Cellars for our high-end wines. Each can be described as "one hell of a wine, with a heavenly taste!"

Look for our Purgatory Cellars line in fine wine shop, restaurants and retail establishments throughout Illinois and Indiana.

     Purgatory Cellars, the high-end wine line of White Owl
     Winery, has won its second medal of the year in the 24th
     Annual Dallas Morning News Wine Competition held in
     February in Dallas, Texas.

     Over 3,000 wines were entered from the U.S. and
     around the world. The panel of 59 judges was comprised
     of those who work with wine on a daily basis:
     restaurateurs, retail wine buyers, wine stewards,
     enologists and wine and food writers.

     National Women's Wine
03/15/08

     “This competition is quite unique,” said winery co-owner
     Joy Neighbors.  “It is the only U.S. wine competition
     where all of the wine judges are women involved in some
     aspect of the wine business, as a wine writer, wine maker
     , sommelier or wine buyer.  These are definitely wines
     women love!”

     New World International

     Purgatory Cellars, the high-end wine line of White Owl
     Winery, has won its first medal in the 18th Annual New
     World International Wine Competition. “This competition
     is different than most,” Neighbors explained. “All of the
     wines are judged by price category against others of its
     type.  It’s the only competition in the country that puts the
     best wines from each price class against each other.
     It truly is a competition.”
