(For Immediate Release from Birds, IL)
Purgatory Cellars, the high-end wine line of White Owl Winery, has won its third medal of the year in the 2nd Annual National Women’s Wine Competition held last month in Santa Rosa, California.
“This competition is quite unique,” said winery co-owner Joy Neighbors. “It is the only U.S. wine competition where all of the wine judges are women involved in some aspect of the wine business, as a wine writer, wine maker, sommelier or wine buyer. These are definitely wines women love!”
Once again PERSIMMON SOLERA, the only wine P.C./WOW entered in the competition, took a silver medal. This one-of-a-kind wine is made entirely from Midwestern persimmons and crafted in the Solera Sherry method. It won the Illinois Governor’s Cup last year for Best Dessert Wine in the state and is available for sale at various wine shops and retail locations throughout Indiana and Illinois
Over 1,900 wines from 30 states and 10 foreign countries were judged in this contest by 36 female judges. Only 1,038 wines received awards. Of those, only 57 were silver.
This brings the number of awards to three for Purgatory Cellars, the high-end wine line of White Owl Winery.
